By Karen Hill

The oldest restaurant in the world is Ma Yu Ching’s Bucket Chicken House, opened for business during the Sung dynasty in 1153.

It still serves noodles and rice in the city of Kaifeng, and is also the the world’s longest running restaurant.

Ma Yu Ching’s Bucket Chicken House has survived numerous wars, invasions, and dynasty changes, and it still offers takeout food.

Bucket chicken originated from roast chickens sold in the markets of Kaifeng, capital city during the Song Dynasty.
