Half were born in Latin America, including Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and El Salvador.
A fourth were born in Asia, including the Philippines, China, Vietnam, and India. A fifth were born in Europe.
Half of all foreign born people in the United States live in these five metropolitan areas: Los Angeles, New York, Miami, San Francisco, and Chicago.
