What Does the Word “Metrosexual” Mean and Where Did the Term Come From?

The word metrosexual was coined in 1994 by writer Mark Simpson.

However, it was Simpson’s 2002 article in Salon concerning soccer star David Beckham that introduced metrosexual to everyday use.

A metro-sexual is a straight but fastidious and style-conscious urban male whose self-indulgence never keeps him far from his true love, himself.
