What was the Harlem Renaissance?

May 28, 2020 by Karen Hill

The Harlem Renaissance, also called the Black Renaissance and the New Negro Movement, was a time in the 1920s when a large number of black poets, writers, artists, musicians, and performers expressed themselves and their experiences as blacks in America through their writing, art, and music.

Black artists were able to educate the public about being black in America and to show new pride in being black.
