From the very beginning of Christmas traditions, January 6, the day of the Epiphany, was the official end of gift giving, and the most popular day of the celebration.
Some people still celebrate the Epiphany as being more important than Christmas Day.
Regardless, January 6 is the last day of the festival, and that is the day to take down the tree and decorations.
To do otherwise is bad luck.
