The Grand Canyon is not the deepest canyon in the United States.
Hells Canyon, formed by the erosive action of the Snake River through the mountains on the Oregon–Idaho border, is more than 8,032 feet (2,448 m) deep at its lowest point and extends for 40 miles (64 km).
The Grand Canyon, a gorge in the Colorado River in northwestern Arizona, is more than 6,000 feet (1,829 m) deep in some places.
But it is much larger than Hells Canyon, at about 281 miles (452 km) long.
