A creature that lived during the age of the dinosaurs, the pterodactyl, was not really a dinosaur, it was a flying reptile.
The pterodactyl flew by means of thin wings made of skin that stretched between its hind legs and one very long finger of each forelimb.
Some of these flying reptiles were only the size of a canary or a sparrow, but others were huge.
Bones have been found of a pterodactyl with a head four feet long and a wingspan of 18 feet! This creature was probably the largest animal that ever flew.
