Where Did the Abbreviation of Christmas Xmas Come From and What Does it Mean?

Xmas has its roots legitimately grounded in the Greek word for Christ, which is Xristos.

In the sixteenth century, Europeans adopted the first letter from Xristos as an initial for Christ’s name.

And even though the practice had been common among the early Christians, some North Americans, not understanding the Greek language, mistakenly took the X as a commercial insult.
