You probably would guess that the Himalayas, which contain 96 of the 109 tallest mountains, is the greatest mountain range on our planet.
Actually, the earth’s greatest mountain range is the Atlantic Ridge, which runs north and south under the Atlantic Ocean, from Iceland almost to the Antarctic Circle. This range is 10,000 miles long, 500 miles wide, and at least 3,000 feet high in most places.
The tallest peak in the Atlantic Ridge is Mount Pico, which forms one of the Azores Islands. Mount Pico rises 7,615 feet above sea level, but is 23,615 feet above the ocean floor!
