March 6, 2020 by Karen Hill

Permafrost is permanently frozen soil. It is found in regions where the winters are very cold and the summers are not warm or long enough to allow the soil to thaw.

A region of eastern Siberia, near the Lena River, has the deepest permafrost yet discovered on earth. The ground there is continually frozen to a depth of 4,920 feet!
