Lord Alfred Tennyson wrote about The Crimean War in “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, the same war that made Florence Nightingale famous.
The war was fought between the Russian Empire on one side and an alliance of the British Empire, French Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Kingdom of Sardinia, and the Duchy of Nassau on the other.
The conflict it is also known as the “Oriental War” in Russia.
The Crimean War is notorious for the logistical and tactical errors on both sides, and was also the first to be extensively documented in photographs.
