Why were there so many Native Americans in California?

California features many different environments, from harsh deserts in the south to great, rainy forests in the north.

Nearly every region offered Native Americans a wide variety of wild plants and animals for food and for materials to make clothing, houses, and tools, so many Native American tribes could flourish there.
