Coffee is the main crop of Uganda. In some years, this small African nation can rank as high as fifth among the world’s largest producers of coffee, accounting for more than 5 percent of world supplies.
Most of Uganda’s coffee is exported. The favorite food crop of the Ugandan people is the potato, and Ugandans eat more potatoes than any other people on earth.
In the United States, the average person consumes about 100 pounds of potatoes a year. The average Ugandan eats 1,050 pounds of potatoes a year, that’s almost three pounds of potatoes per day!
