By Karen Hill

Valentine’s Day is second only to Christmas as the largest annual card-sending holiday.

One billion Valentine’s cards are sent each year.

Women purchase 85 percent of all Valentine’s cards, so men receive more, but then 15 percent of women send themselves flowers on February 14.

In order of popularity, the cards are sent to teachers, children, mothers, wives, and sweethearts.

As well, 3 percent of all Valentine’s cards are sent to pets.
