Was a battle-axe different from a regular wood-chopping axe during The Middle Ages?

May 19, 2020 by Karen Hill

Indeed, a battle-axe was different from a regular wood-chopping axe in medieval times.

The battle-axe had a shorter handle.

When chopping wood, a long handle is necessary for a wide swing.

In battle, and in dealing with flesh, a short blow yields more accuracy and damage.
