What state motto did John Wilkes Booth shout after he shot Abraham Lincoln?

May 27, 2020 by Karen Hill

A state motto? What are the choices? “I have found it!”; “The crossroads of America!”; “Famous potatoes!”

We don’t think so. Actually, it was Virginia’s motto John Wilkes Booth shouted when he jumped onto the stage after shooting Abraham Lincoln:

“Sic semper tyrannis!” (“Thus always to tyrants!”).
