The weather on the planet Neptune is characterized by extremely dynamic storm systems.
The winds around Neptune’s equator blow at a rate of almost 1,500 feet (450 m) per second, or just over 1,000 miles (1,600 km) per hour, making the smallest gas giant also one of the windiest.
The equatorial winds blow in the opposite direction (east to west) from Neptune’s rotation.
Approximately 50° further south, the winds taper off to 1,000 feet (300 m) per second and change to blow back in the direction of the planet’s rotation.
