Who Has More Bones an Infant or an Adult?

You probably figured that because an adult is bigger, he would have more bones in his body. But that isn’t so! An infant has 300 bones in its body, while an adult has only 206. What happens to them as the child grows? Do they just disappear? No!

As the child grows, two or three of these bones fuse, or grow together, to form one bone. Of the adult’s 206 bones, 64 are in his arms and 62 are in his legs.

In the body of a 160-pound man, 29 pounds of his weight is from his bones!
