Who Uses the Most Water In the United States and How Much Water Is Used For Irrigation?

March 6, 2020 by Karen Hill

Most of the water in the United States is put to industrial uses, including power generation.

Almost as much water, about 40 percent, is used for irrigation, particularly in states like California, Texas, and Nebraska.

Only 12 percent of water is used by households and businesses.

In many parts of the world, some people have inadequate access to drinking water and are forced to use water sources contaminated with disease, pathogens or toxic chemicals.
