How did Clergymen defend Slavery in Colonial America?

Clergymen in favor of slavery found passages in the Bible that they believed supported slavery.

The most frequently used was Genesis 9:25-27. In these passages, Noah, upset by the misbehavior of his son Ham, who was thought to be black, cursed all the descendants of Ham’s son Canaan.

The curse was that they would be slaves forever, serving the rest of the population.
