How Many People In India Don’t Know How To Read or Write and How Many Kids In India Go To High School?

About one-third of India’s men and two-thirds of its women are illiterate.

India has a 12-year school system, but high school is optional.

Only 38 percent of Indian girls and 59 percent of boys attend high school.

The state of Kerala has the highest literacy rate at 91% while Bihar has the lowest at 47%.

India is the second most populous country in the world in 2010 with population of about 1.2 billion people.

The Bay of Bengal lies to the east of India.

Areas around it are subject to strong winds and rainstorms known as monsoons.
