The center of the Southeast, including what are now the states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, was the home of many large Indian groups, such as the Cherokee, the Chickasaw, the Choctaw, and the Creek confederacy of tribes.
To their east lived the Tuscarora of present-day North Carolina, the Catawba and the Yamasee of what is now South Carolina, and the Timucua of present-day Florida.
To their west were the Biloxi and the Tunica of present-thy Louisiana and the Natchez of what is now southern Mississippi.
