Boiling water will kill most bacteria and viruses, including those that want to do you harm.
However, if you’re looking for complete sterility, boiling temperatures won’t kill every type of microorganism.
For example, heat-loving bacteria have been found swimming in superheated volcanic vents bubbling up from the ocean’s floor, in the hot springs of Yellowstone Park, and even in geothermal power plants, surviving temperatures well above the boiling point of water.
