What did the J. stand for in J. Edgar Hoover?

The J. in J. Edgar Hoover stood for John.

Johnny Hoover chose to go by his middle name. What did the “G” stand for? It is anybody’s guess.

Born on January 1, 1895, John Edgar Hoover was the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI. Hoover is credited with building and success of the FBI.

Hoover had consistantly strong support in Congress until his death in 1972 from the effects of high blood pressure.
