What Is the Rarest Animal on Earth?

The world’s rarest animal is a kind of Tenrec, a small, burrowing, insect-eating mammal that lives on Madagascar and some other islands in the Indian Ocean.

Only one specimen of Tenrec has ever been found!

  1. the rarest animal on earth currently is the Pinta Island tortoise in the Galapagos islands. “Lonesome George” is the only surviving member of the species, and there is a $10,000 reward for the person that finds a surviving female.

  2. I think one of the rarest yet most robust animals on Earth may be the Loch Ness “monster”, which, if it exists and is not a hoax created by a model submarine, may be represented by as little as one family.

  3. Platypuses are the only mammal that lay eggs so I’ll say platypuses are the rarest animal on earth :)(: Just like Phineas and Ferb on Disney Channel Perry the platypus(Agent P) vs. Dr. Doofenshmirtz winner and champion and always will be Agent P(Perry the Platypus).

  4. “Swinhoe’s soft-shell turtle” was thought to be extinct in nature. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has just announced the discovery of a critically endangered turtle in northern Vietnam that previously was thought to be extinct in the wild. Experts from the Zoo’s Asian Turtle Program confirmed that they have identified the only known living specimen of a Swinhoe’s soft-shell turtle (Rafetus swinhoei) in nature.

  5. I don’t get it. I heard that a puma once attacked a person. If you think logically, you would probably think that if a puma attacked a person, then they probably have a larger population than thought, Keshav. So please shut up.

  6. actually platypus’s are not the only mammals that lay eggs as a matter of fact because they belong to a group of mammals called monotremes and all monotremes lay eggs

  7. I thought the White Tiger was a really rare animal? It hasnt been mentioned in any of the other websites?

  8. Another egg laying mammal would be the echidna from australia like the platupus (my fave animal!) Think of the love child between an anteater and hedgehog. As far as rare animals.. I would think the Narwhal and snow leopard in asia since their numbers are in the bare thousands. And to Hari, so is the Goddess (^ – ^). Blessed be!.. And ROCK ON DARWIN!
