Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta was born in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, in 1932.
He studied in Madrid and opened his own salon in New York City in 1965.
His luxurious, European styled evening gowns and daywear have made him one of the most famous Dominican Americans.
