Democrat Fernando Ferrer has been elected the Bronx borough president for four consecutive terms and has used his position to bring housing and economic opportunity to this once rundown section of New York City.
He is also prominent in national Hispanic politics: he hosted national presidential debates for Democratic Party candidates in 1988 and 1992 and was chairman of the Democratic National Committee’s Hispanic Caucus.
