Why Has Number 42 Been Retired by Every Major League Baseball Team and Whose Number is it?

In 1997, fifty years after he broke the color barrier, every Major League Baseball team retired Jackie Robinson’s number 42.

Active players who had the number before 1997 were allowed to wear it until their retirement.

But no other player will be able to wear the number again.
