Who invented Cigars and How did Cuban Cigars originate?

April 20, 2020 by Karen Hill

The most prized cigars in the world come from Cuba, perhaps because Cubans invented cigars.

The Taino and Ciboney people of Cuba were growing tobacco and rolling the leaves into cigars before Columbus arrived.

Cubans of Spanish descent made a lucrative industry out of the Native American practice. Today, cigars are rolled in many countries, including the United States, where Cuban Americans in Key West and Tampa, Florida, have produced cigars since the nineteenth century.

The Cuban cigar industry is important to Cuba’s economy, but increasing knowledge about the dangers of tobacco has reduced the number of smokers. But many cigar aficionados still believe the most exquisite smoke comes from Cuba.
